The Warri-Itakpe train has resumed operations on Monday, July 8, following a crash last week.

TORI had reported earlier that the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), on Friday, suspended the Warri-Itakpe rail service after a train derailed on Thursday.

It was gathered that the train was travelling from Itakpe in Kogi to Ujevwu in Delta when the accident occurred at about 7.15 pm.

A digital strategist who was on board when the accident happened, Ediri Oyibo, informed reporters that the train wobbled along its track at several locations during the journey.

Reports emerging on Monday morning, however, revealed that by 6:45 am today, numerous travellers had already arrived at the Ujevwe trail station to buy their tickets.

On Sunday, passengers had been reassured of their safety by the Minister of Transportation, Senator Ahmed Alkali.

During his visit to the Agbor-Abraka train station, the Minister declared that the Warri-Itakpe train service would be back in action on Monday.

He said: “We are happy that the incident did not lead to any casualty, it is an operational issue, and we are happy to see that NRC has used its internal resources to fix the track.

“By tomorrow, Monday, the train will resume its operation. We thanked God that the accident did not claim any life.”
