In what will come across as a really tragic development, a trigger-happy police officer is said to have shot and killed a young boy in the Ozoro community, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The incident occurred Saturday night, Daily Post reports.
It was learnt that Policemen who stormed the area had found a knockout in the victim’s possession.
Reports said the police tried to arrest the deceased boy but he resisted and in his attempt to escape, one of the Policemen opened fire and killed him.
However, the Initiative For Social Rights Concerns And Advancement, ISRCA, has condemned in strong terms the dastard murder of the young boy by the Policeman.
ISRCA National Coordinator, Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen in a statement said, “I cøndemn in strøng terms, the unprofessional conduct of the Police operative alleged to have perpetuated the act.”
The group also appealed to well-meaning Nigerians especially indigenes of Ozoro Community to be civil in their approach at all times, especially when dealing with armed Police officers.
The group urged the Nigeria Police Force Delta State to carry out a thorough investigation on the matter and bring the erring officer to justice just as he condoled with the family of the deceased.
Agberen said, “I sympathize with the family of the young boy that was allegedly shot by a Police officer at Ozoro last night, arising from knockouts that were found in his possession. It was alleged that the young man resisted arrest and while he was running, he was shot by one of the Police officers.”
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe in a WhatsApp message he sent to Our Correspondent confirmed the report.
The Police image maker said, “The policeman has been identified and detained.”
According to SP Edafe, ”CP assures the family of justice”.
