Three students from the Enugu State College of Health Technology in Oji River have reportedly been kidnapped.

The incident which has raised concerns and tensions in the college occurred on Wednesday evening.

Sources from the school told SaharaReporters that gunmen suspected to be kidnappers invaded the students’ halls of residence at about 7 pm on Wednesday evening and abducted the students unhindered.

A student of the college who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that out of fear, students are deserting the school, adding that many have travelled home.

“We are looking for three of our fellow students. They are not answering their calls yet. The kidnappers shot sporadically into the air before gaining entrance into the hostels. There was pandemonium following the sporadic gunshots as everybody scampered for safety,” the source said.

Meanwhile, according to SaharaReporters, it could not ascertain if the suspected kidnappers have reached out to the families of the victims.

According to one of the sources, there have been unhindered movement of cattle by herders in and around the college recently.

The source fears that the students might have been kidnapped by the herdsmen.

Meanwhile, SaharaReporters efforts to speak with the Enugu State Police Command were unsuccessful as the Command’s spokesman DSP Daniel Ndukwe did not take his calls or respond to a text message as at the time of filing this report.
