Suspected Armed Robber Beaten To Death In Edo Community

The spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Moses Joel Yamu, who confirmed the incident in a statement at the weekend said the suspect and two members of his gang invaded a compound in Emauodu community, to rob the occupants.

A suspected armed robber was beaten to death by an irate mob in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

The spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Moses Joel Yamu, who confirmed the incident in a statement at the weekend said the suspect and two members of his gang invaded a compound in Emauodu community, to rob the occupants.

One of the victims raised an alarm which made the other two escape while firing shots in the air.

However luck ran out on the deceased as he was apprehended by residents and beaten to d£ath.

“On 05/09/2024 at about 0230hrs, operatives of the Ekpoma Police Division while responding to a distress call about an ongoing robbery incident, rushed to the scene and met the suspect lying lifeless as a result of mob action,” the statement read.

“He was rushed to Eromosele hospital where he later died and confirmed by a medical Doctor, while receiving treatment.

“The operatives gathered that the suspect (now deceased) and 2 others now at large, invaded a compound in Emauodu community, to rob the occupants of their valuables.

“One of the victims raised alarm which made the other two to escape while firing shots in the air to scare vigilant members of the community away, but one of them was apprehended and mobbed. Items recovered include a locally made gun and a knife.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Nemo Iwo, psc (+) while commending members of the community for their alertness, appeals to the general public to desist from carrying out jungle justice and always hand over suspects to the Police for investigation.”
