The Rivers State Government has dismissed allegations made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that it sponsored protesters to vandalize a billboard at the APC state office in Port Harcourt on Monday, August 5.

Rivers State Commissioner for Information, Joe Johnson, addressed the allegations in a telephone interview with Channels Television, calling the claims made by Tony Okocha, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the APC in Rivers State, baseless.

Johnson emphasized that the administration led by Governor Siminalayi Fubara is focused on managing the state’s affairs and has no interest in engaging in such acts of vandalism. He highlighted the governor’s display of leadership by addressing protesters on the first day of demonstrations, which helped to alleviate tensions in the state.

The commissioner criticized the Tony Okocha-led APC Caretaker Committee in Rivers State, describing it as factional and driven by personal ambitions. He accused Okocha and his supporters of being frustrated due to their failed attempts to use mercenaries to disrupt the peace in the state.

Johnson reassured the public that the state government remains committed to maintaining peace and stability in Rivers State and urged citizens to disregard the unfounded accusations.
