Reinstatement: Shaibu Accuses Obaseki of Executive Rascality

Shaibu claimed Obaseki had boasted several times in various quarters that Marvelous Omobayo remains the deputy governor until the end of his tenure.

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu has called out Governor Godwin Obaseki.

This is as he accused Obaseki of ‘executive rascality and lawlessness’ over his reinstatement by a Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court.

Shaibu claimed Obaseki had boasted several times in various quarters that Marvelous Omobayo remains the deputy governor until the end of his tenure.

In April 2024, the Edo State House of Assembly impeached Shaibu following his face-off with Obaseki.

Obaseki replaced Shaibu with Omobayo, who was sworn in as the deputy governor.

But, last month, the FCT High Court reinstated Shaibu as the deputy governor and he resumed office on Monday.

However, speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Musa Ebomhiana, on Tuesday, Shaibu said Obaseki has no regard for judicial pronouncements.

A statement by Ebomhiana reads partly: “Obaseki is one governor who is well known for his disdain for the judiciary and flagrant disrespect for judicial pronouncements.

“Erroneously, he also believes that every man has a price. He was said to have boasted several times at various quarters that Omobayo remains his deputy governor until he serves out his term as Edo State Governor.

“Unfortunately, Governor Godwin Obaseki has behaved as if he is a law unto himself, especially since the July 17 court judgment which reinstated Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu as Deputy Governor of Edo State after his purported impeachment by the State House of Assembly in April 2024.”
