Ahead of the upcoming state local government elections in Benue state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the guidelines for candidate nominations.
The announcement follows the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission’s (BSIEC) release of the election timetable, which is scheduled for October 5.
The guidelines were made public on Monday and are signed by the Publicity Secretary of the Caretaker Committee, Hon. Oryina Orvaa.
As stated by Orvaa, the screening of candidates will take place on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, with specific arrangements for different zones. Councillorship candidates from Zone A are to be screened at the London Galaxy Hotel in Adikpo at 10:00 AM.
He noted that those from Zone B will be screened at the PDP State Secretariat in Makurdi, starting at 10:00 AM.
Candidates from Zone C are scheduled to be screened at Leach Hotel in Otukpo, beginning promptly at 10:00 AM.
Orvaa further indicated that chairmanship candidates who have submitted their expression of interest and nomination forms would be screened at the party headquarters in Makurdi on the same day, August 27, 2024.
He also mentioned that the primaries for councillorship candidates will occur on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the respective council ward headquarters, while chairmanship primaries will take place at the local government area headquarters on the same date.
Additionally, Hon. Orvaa noted that any appeals resulting from the screening and the conduct of the primaries for both councillorship and chairmanship will be addressed on Thursday, August 28, 2024, at the party headquarters in Makurdi.
He urged all aspirants to ensure that their completed forms are submitted alongside their tax clearance certificates, party membership and voter cards, photocopies of their nomination and expression of interest forms, proof of payment of handling charges, and academic qualifications, all of which must be presented during the screening process.
