Three abducted victims have been rescued by the police in collaboration with vigilantes in two villages in Omupo District in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
During the operation, one of the armed abductors was killed during exchange of gunfire and five others were arrested.
It was gathered that the victims, two Fulani women and one of their husbands, were abducted over the weekend from their camps near Gaa Sulu village.
However, on Sunday, February 25, 2024, in a joint operation, hunters and vigilantes of Miyetti Allah, in collaboration with the police, rescued the abducted persons.
The Coordinator of the Joint Security Network, Kwara South District, Elder Olaitan Oyin Zubair, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday.
“Upon receiving the news of the abduction of three people, the hunters and vigilantes swung into action by combing the forests which resulted in an exchange of gunfire between the hunters and the kidnappers,” he said.
“The action of the hunters who were promptly joined by residents from various communities in the area to chase the six kidnappers led to the freedom of the abducted persons and arrest of some of the criminals. One of them was shot dead during the exchange of gunfire.”
The spokesman of the Kwara State Police Command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, also confirmed the incident on Monday.
