Fifty semi-detached bungalows have been razed by fire in Rigasa, Kaduna State.

This was confirmed by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

The structures were destroyed in the fire that affected a section of Kaduna Central Market.

NEMA staff led by Abbas Hamisu of the Relief and Rehabilitation Unit, with support from KADSEMA, Red Cross and Federal Fire Service, conducted an assessment of the fire disaster at the market and some housing units owned by the Kaduna State Government.

In a post on the agency’s Facebook page, Hamisu explained that it was discovered that hundreds of stalls/shops were destroyed in the two sections of the market, adding that details of the list of victims and losses are still being compiled.

“However, about 50 semi detached bungalows were burnt in the Rigasa Housing estate as observed by the joint team. The houses are yet to be occupied at this point,” he said.

The source of the fire is yet to be ascertained but it is believed that it could have been caused by bush burning.
