Gov Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state has suspended the chairman and board members of the state’s Teachers Service Commission following the unauthorized employment of over 1,000 teachers.
The governor had previously emphasized that only teachers properly recruited through approved processes would receive their full entitlements.
This development was disclosed in a statement on Monday by his social media assistant, Godwin Rimi, in Lafia, the state capital. The suspension followed widespread public outcry over allegations of unpaid salaries for the affected teachers.
According to Mr Rimi, during a meeting at the Government House, the Teachers Service Commission’s management admitted to the unauthorized recruitment of over 1,000 teachers without seeking the governor’s approval.
To address the issue, Governor Sule has established a committee to investigate the illegal recruitment process. The measure aims to resolve concerns raised by the affected teachers and to ensure transparency and accountability in the commission’s operations.
