The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) has raided a styrofoam warehouse located at Ojuwoye market in the Mushin area of the state.
Disclosing this on social media on Tuesday, July 2, the state Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the owner of the warehouse brought the banned styrofoam to the market in the early hours of Tuesday. “Based on intelligence gathering, the operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) #lagescofficial discovered a styrofoam warehouse at Ojuwoye Market in Mushin. The owner brought in the banned styrofoam to market in the early hours of today.
The products have been confiscated and taken to the KAI office in Oshodi for incineration. The Lagos state government #followlasg is reiterating its commitment to ensuring a healthy, cleaner, and safer environment for all Lagosians.”
The Lagos State Government had in January 2024 announced a ban on the usage and distribution of Styrofoam and other single-use plastics in the state with immediate effect.
The Commissioner who announced the ban said the decision was reached following the menace the single-use plastics especially the non-biodegradable Styrofoam were causing on the environment.
