The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has inaugurated 169 officers into the newly established Special Intervention Squad (SIS) to curb the worsening banditry and kidnapping activities in the country.

This event was conducted on Monday at the Police Mobile Force Training College in Ende Hills, within the Ende Hills Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

During his address at the event, IGP Egbetokun characterized the SIS as a significant stride forward in the police force’s operational strategy, integrating international best practices for efficient law enforcement.

The Police boss stressed that the unit was meticulously crafted to bridge existing deficiencies within the current policing framework by offering a formidable mechanism for swift response and impactful intervention.

“This occasion marks a significant milestone in our quest for a safer Nigeria. It stands as a testament to our commitment to strengthening national security and protecting every Nigerian citizen.

“The Special Intervention Squad was created to confront pressing challenges such as kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes that have caused fear and disruption across our nation,” Egbetokun noted.

The Inspector General underscored the officers’ extensive training, which encompassed advanced tactical operations, intelligence gathering, crisis negotiation, and community engagement.
