Gov Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has disclosed that the issue of religion and ethnicity has nothing to do with the recent demolition of buildings in the state.
Sanwo-Olu explained that only buildings that contravene the laws of the state are demolished.
Speaking during a live media chat, ‘Sanwo Speaks’, the governor insisted that the demolition of buildings in the state has no ethnic or religious colouration.
He said: “We only remove the structures of those that contravened the State’s building and development laws. We don’t consider the ethnic or religious background of those defaulting our laws. We cannot compromise the laws; we need to rescue the city.” This comes as Sanwo-Olu’s government is accused of targeting and demolishing Igbo-populated markets and buildings in the state. The governor was accused of being on a vendetta mission over the decision of Igbo residents in the state to vote for the Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, during the last poll.
