Soldiers in Jere town, Kaduna State, have reportedly arrested a commercial cyclist accused of running errands for bandits.
A resident, Magaji Danjuma, who spoke with our reporter through telephone on Wednesday, said the cyclist was arrested on Tuesday around Gadan-Malam in Rijana village along the Abuja-Kaduna highway.
He explained that the cyclist left Jere after buying food items, drugs, cigarettes and wines allegedly to be delivered to the bandits around the Rijana Forest.
He said vigilantes in who had been suspecting the cyclist alerted the soldiers, who then monitored him while heading towards the forest, flagged him down, searched the sack he was carrying and discovered recharge cards worth N235,000, cough syrup, a carton of spaghetti, wines and packets of cigarettes.
He further said the cyclist confessed that he was sent by bandits from the Rijana Forest who paid him between N60,000 and N80,000 per errand.
The spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, SP Hassan Mansur, did not respond to calls and an SMS.
