Police in Niger State have apprehended a suspected leader of bandits, Rabiu Yusuf, also known as Rabee, at the popular Tunga Mallam market in Paikoro Local Government Area of the state.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, disclosed this while parading different suspects arrested by his command.
He said the suspected bandit was arrested on January 6 based on intelligence report, saying that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to a series of kidnappings he had participated in.
He added that the suspect was a member of Muware camp of bandits terrorizing Beji, Maikunkele, Bosso, Gawu-Babangida, Sangeku, Bangi, Gulu, and Lapai area of the state.
He said the command arrested 14 other suspects for various offenses including kidnapping, arms dealing, armed robbery, car theft, raping and thuggery and recovered various arms in the last few weeks.
Among the suspected kidnappers arrested were Abubakar Hussaini (25) of Anaba village, Nasko; Buba Mohammed (35) of Maje village, Nasko; Mainasara Muhammadu (26) of Takalafia, Ibeto-Nasko; and Ibrahim Abdullahi (27) of Kontagora.
The Police Commissioner said the suspects were arrested after kidnapping a 20-year-old victim and collected N1.6 million ransom.
