A 32-year-old businessman, Raphael Moses was on Tuesday, April 30, remanded in a correctional centre by the Kafanchan Upper Customary Court in Kaduna State, for allegedly defiling an 8-year-old girl.
The judge, Michael Bawa, who did not take Mr Moses’ plea, ordered that the case file be sent to the director of public prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
He then adjourned the case until May 19 for DPP advice.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) had charged the defendant with defilement.
The NSCDC prosecutor, Marcus Audu, told the court that the girl’s mother, Catherine Denis, reported the case at the Corp’s office in Kafanchan on April 22.
Mr Audu said the accused lured the girl to his room and defiled her.
He said Mr Moses was caught by some neighbours, who took the complainant to the Salama Sexual Assault Referral Centre.
Mr Audu said the offence contravened section 259 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.
