Rescuers in Obingwu community, Ukwa West LGA of Abia State, have recovered the bodies of five workers who tragically lost their lives at a construction site.

The victims were trapped when a three-storey building under construction collapsed on them.

Though the cause of the building collapse has not been established officially, local sources in the community blamed the tragedy on alleged use of substandard material.

A source further claimed that most of the dead victims were nationals of a West African country working for a contractor.

Abia State Ministry of Lands and Housing could not be reached for comment on the matter.

Also, Abia State Police Command has yet to speak on the matter.
